Throughout my career, veterans have always been a priority. To ensure they are getting the help they deserve when they return home and a pay raise for their service. That is why I introduced and co-sponsored several pieces of legislation that increases benefits for our veterans and armed service members.

One of the pieces of legislation I’m very proud to have introduced to Congress was the Veteran Jobs Opportunity Act. This bill would establish a small-business start-up tax credit for veteran entrepreneurs. In Congress, I have also supported and sponsored:

  • H.R. 3345, The Veterans Jobs Opportunity Act (H.R. 3345)  which establishes a small business start-up tax credit for veterans creating businesses in underserved communities. This bill currently has 27 cosponsors and 4 endorsements from AMVETS, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), American Legion, and the Association of the United States Navy.
  • The Veterans Armed for Success Act (H.R. 3965) this bipartisan bill authorizes the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to make grants to organizations to transition assistance to members of the Armed Forces recently separated from active duty service and spouses of such members.
  • The Veterans’ Agricultural Apprenticeship Act (H.R. 4339) This bipartisan bill establishes a Department of Agriculture loan program to support mentorship and apprenticeship opportunities for veterans of the Armed Forces to become farmers or ranchers.
  • The Sergeant Ernest I. “Boots” Thomas VA Clinic Renaming Act (H.R. 4687) This bill designates the Department of Veterans Affairs health care center in Tallahassee, Florida, as the “Sergeant Ernest I. ‘Boots’ Thomas VA Clinic.”
