Lawson Hosts Jacksonville Virtual Roundtable with Joe Biden

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – U.S. Rep. Al Lawson (FL-05) participated in a virtual roundtable discussion on Thursday afternoon with Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, Florida Minority Leader Senator Audrey Gibson, Rep. Tracie Davis and other Jacksonville faith and community leaders.

Lawson and Biden discussed issues impacting the African-American community, such as COVID-19, small businesses, affordable health care, and student loans. They also covered Biden’s recently introduced agenda for Black America called “Lift Every Voice.

“I was humbled to introduce our next president, Joe Biden, to Jacksonville, and give him an opportunity to hear directly from community leaders,” Lawson said.  “We need a proven and trusted leader like Joe in the White House. We know Donald Trump is not invested in improving our communities, and we deserve a president who is. Vice President Biden’s strong, bold plan strips out systemic racism from our laws, our policies, our institutions.”

Lawson endorsed Biden shortly after his campaign launch in 2019 — becoming the first member of Congress from Florida to endorse the presumptive democratic nominee.

Lawson announced his own bid for re-election in early April. Since January 2017, the Congressman has represented Florida’s 5th District, which covers all or parts of Gadsden, Leon, Jefferson, Madison, Hamilton, Columbia, Baker and Duval counties.
