TimesUnion Endorsement: It’s time for a change in the 5th Congressional District

TALLAHASSEE, FLA – On Tuesday afternoon, the Florida Times‐Union announced its endorsement of congressional candidate and former Florida State Senator, Al Lawson, in the Congressional District 5 race.

In receiving the newspaper’s endorsement, Lawson stated that it is an honor and a privilege to have the Times‐Union’s support, noting, “To receive the endorsement from the biggest publication in Jacksonville means so much to me. It shows that the city is ready for a leader they can trust. I am ready to go to Washington and work hard for the Bold City.”

Senator Lawson attended a candidate interview with the Florida Times‐Union on July 29, responding to questions from members of the editorial board on how he plans to work for the people of Jacksonville and Florida’s District 5 as a whole.

The Florida Times‐Union noted in their endorsement that Al Lawson “will work for all of his constituents in Washington. He will not indulge in ‘us vs. them’ tactics. Lawson will be a studious workhouse in Congress. He will not be a self‐aggrandizing showhorse… Lawson will be a unifying presence as a congressman, someone who will work across the partisan aisle.”

Senator Lawson is very much looking forward to the opportunity to bring new leadership to this district, and work for the will of the people.

The primary election for Congressional District 5 will take place on August 30, with early voting beginning August 15, in Duval County.
